Namibian teachers 'positively influence students'

28/10/2009

Namibia's ministry of education believes that headmasters within Namibia's schools can have a strong influence on the education system.

New Era reports Thea Seefeldt, the acting director of education in the Khomas region, believes principals have a crucial role to play in helping the nation develop successful schools and students.

Speaking at the annual Windhoek Principals' School Association conference, Ms Seefeldt said: "It is my wish that principals lead energetically, joyfully and effectively in our schools because the way you lead today will to a large extent determine how we and the generations after us will live tomorrow."

She added that it is also essential for current principals to encourage others within the teaching profession to develop leadership skills so that standards can continue to improve in the future.

Meanwhile, New Era also reports that there has been a growth in the number of qualifications awarded by the Polytechnic of Namibia following an extensive expansion and refurbishment plan at the institution.
