Tanzanian health university to relocate
06/07/2009
Work will begin later this year to relocate Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Mloranganzira, the Tanzanian president has announced.
Jakaya Kikwete said that the construction project will help boost the number of medical graduates in the country. At present, MUHAS produces fewer than 230 doctors a year.
"We have the money and we are determined to start construction of new university this year. Those who invaded the area have been relocated to other places to pave way for the new facility," explained the president.
The Citizen reports that the government is also planning to set up a school of medicine at Dodoma University.
Mr Kikwete's announcements came as he launched the third phase of a strategic plan for the health sector, which aims to improve referral systems, staffing levels and healthcare provision at village and ward level.
Earlier this week, the East African reported that the Tanzanian government has revealed it is soon to adopt online solutions in its operations.
